Transit-Oriented Development in Central Denver

Margaret Jackson of the Post had a great write-up about the under-utilized area south and west of Invesco Field on Sunday, February 11.  The area spans south of Colfax and west of the Platte River, and includes Sun Valley housing project and Festival Plaza on Federal Blvd.

What makes it interesting is that the new West Corridor rail line, scheduled to be completed in 2013, will have a stop there and this area is primed for redevelopment.  It is an area of about 125 acres and offers unlimited potential for sustainable housing and transit-oriented development (TOD) in central Denver.

Denver has some exciting times ahead as these TOD projects move from the planning tables to reality.  Redevelopment in the Prospect neighborhood, Auraria, Osage, Decatur, and this area offers real opportunities.  Margaret interviews David Zucker and Susan Powers, both known for building affordable housing, and both are cautiously considering investment here.   David Zucker has developed two residential projects nearby.

There is a public workshop to discuss central Denver TOD on this Thursday at the Denver Inner City Parish, 1212 Mariposa St from 530 to 830.
