Hines breaks ground on new LEED Silver building in LoDo
The Denver office of Hines held a groundbreaking ceremony on the new 1515 Wynkoop office building at the site of the former Postal Annex building. It was an exciting event, not only because the handsome new commercial building is the first "green" building in the state to have LEED Silver certification prior to groundbreaking, but because it marks the beginning of the final chapter in the renovation of the former USPS site.
Denver based Hartman Cox Architects designed the 1515 Building. They also designed the 16 Market Square building in downtown Denver.
Denver based Van Guilder Insurance, and 100 year old privately help insurer is the anchor tenant and was well-represented at the groundbreaking.
Opus NW built the new EPA building on the other half of the site, with a recent commencement ceremony earlier this month. Opus is also building the 1401 Wewatta Building on the former parking lot which served the Postal Annex building.
The former Postal Annex building was architecturally significant because it displayed the largest solid blond brick wall in the country. Nice, but not quite the amenity that LoDo needed as a next door neighbor.
the new buildings by Opus and Hines will help mark the entry to LoDo from the Central Platte Valley and Denver Union Station.
The only new residential housing among the three new buildings will be the Wynkoop Residences, 21 new luxury condos atop the Opus building along Cherry Creek between Wewatta and Wynkoop.
