Edbrooke Lofts
The Edbrooke Lofts are
located at 15th and Wynkoop, close to the center of historic Lower Downtown
Denver. The Edbrooke was designed by renowned Denver architect Frank E. Edbrooke
in 1905. The five-story warehouse received an additional floor in 1911. The
building is constructed of molded and pressed brick and reflects elements of the
Neoclassical Revival style in its massing and trim.
The original owners of
the building were Spratlen-Anderson, a Denver wholesale grocery business that
expanded into the building upon its completion. The wholesale grocery remained
there until the company dissolved in 1923. The succeeding owner, Davis Brothers
Drug Company, occupied the building until 1957. The building was later added to
the National Historic Register in 1985.
The Edbrooke was converted to
residential lofts at the beginning of Denver’s lower downtown renaissance in
1990. The Edbrooke was the original for sale loft project in LoDo and most of
the building’s lofts are larger than average, ranging from 1600 sq. ft. to over
4000 sq. ft.
The project included 44 units with adjacent two level
parking. Project features include a common roof deck as well as several
units with private decks or balconies. Heavy timbers, exposed brick and
windows on four sides of the building make the Edbrooke one of the most
desirable buildings in LoDo.
