Denver City Council approves Historic Urban Edge District

31-story residential tower can be built at Bell Park

Denver City Council approved the land use change, which paves the way for Developer Buzz Geller to build a 31-story high rise building on the site.

The change has been under debate for about 2 years.  It carves out a piece of the LoDo Historic District to create the Historic Urban Edge District.  I support the change as it allows for a signature landmark building at a gateway location where auraria parkway enters downtown.

Several residents at Larimer Place opposed approval of a tall building at the site as they felt it spoiled their views.  I feel it will make their views better.

Councilman Doug Linkhart opposed the change, but City Council approved the measure 12-1.  Councilwoman Judy Montero led the 2 year discussion among stakeholders.  LoDo District helped build concensus which led to the agreement.
