Civic Center Park should connect with the rest of downtown Denver
I really appreciate the good work that Margaret Jackson has been doing for the Denver Post real estate section. She recently interviewed Architect Dennis Humphries about Denver Civic Center Park.
Denver is still trying to deal with the design concepts raised by Architect Daniel Liebeskind. Humphries comments that Liebeskind’s geometry did not respect the composition of the park.
it is interesting that Denver is becoming increasingly interested in architecture. Humphries comments that the increased interest was evidenced in interviews for the Justice Center and the Clyfford Still Museum, where hundreds of people came out to hear architects speak.
He comments that Denver suffered in the late ’70s and ’80s when the Canadiens came in and build high-rise buildings based on the model used in other cities. But now we have higher standards and expectations.
Everyone awaits the good ideas that will surely emerge from all the attention on Civic Center park.
